Before the celebration

Choose the people and traditions you want involved, without assigning roles by gender. Consider wording, outfits, rings, flowers and photographs that feel right for both partners.

The ceremony

Personal promises, readings and family rituals can reflect the couple’s own beliefs and ceremony arrangements.

Clothing and music

Outfits may include gowns, suits, tailoring, cultural dress or another personal choice. Choose music that matters to the couple, rather than assuming a particular LGBTQ+ style.

How long does it last?

There is no fixed duration for this type of celebration. Ask the officiant or provider for the ceremony length, then plan photographs, travel, a meal and any reception separately. A small ceremony and a full-day celebration can have very different schedules.
