Rosh Hashanah
Rosh Hashanah is the Jewish New Year, rooted in Jewish religious traditions and observed by Jewish communities worldwide, including the UK. It begins the High Holy Days and is a time for reflection, prayer, renewal and hopes for the year ahead.
When it happens: usually September or October, beginning at sunset on the eve of the first day of Tishrei in the Hebrew calendar. It is generally observed over two days, and the exact Gregorian calendar dates change each year.
Traditions may include hearing the shofar, a ram’s-horn instrument, attending synagogue and sharing festive meals. Apples dipped in honey express wishes for a sweet new year, while other symbolic foods and customs vary between communities and families.
Coming soon: thoughtful gifts and decorative pieces for warm New Year wishes and family gatherings, chosen with respect for each family's traditions and dietary requirements.
