Elvis Presley
With his powerful voice, electrifying stage presence and unmistakable style, Elvis Presley helped bring rock ’n’ roll to a worldwide audience. From the raw energy of his early recordings to heartfelt ballads and gospel performances, his music became the soundtrack to countless lives.
Born on 8 January 1935 in Tupelo, Mississippi, Elvis moved to Memphis with his family as a teenager. Drawing on gospel, blues, rhythm and blues, and country music, he began recording at Sun Records in 1954. Songs including Heartbreak Hotel, Hound Dog and Jailhouse Rock helped establish him as one of the defining performers of the 1950s, while Love Me Tender and Can’t Help Falling in Love revealed the tenderness in his voice.
His career also embraced cinema, with films such as Jailhouse Rock and Blue Hawaii. His celebrated 1968 television comeback and later Las Vegas performances introduced new chapters in his performing life, followed by the satellite television special Aloha from Hawaii in 1973. Known around the world as the King of Rock ’n’ Roll, Elvis died at Graceland in Memphis on 16 August 1977, aged 42.
This collection celebrates the music, screen memories and enduring appeal of Elvis, bringing together pieces for fans who continue to treasure his extraordinary legacy.
