St Patrick’s Day
St Patrick’s Day honours Saint Patrick, a patron saint of Ireland associated with the spread of Christianity there in the fifth century. Originally a Christian feast day, it is also widely celebrated as an occasion for Irish heritage, culture and community in Ireland and among Irish communities and friends worldwide, including the UK.
When it happens: 17 March each year. Parades and community events may take place on nearby dates.
Celebrations may include church services, parades, Irish music and dancing, and gatherings with family and friends. Green clothing and shamrocks are familiar symbols, although the meaning and customs of the day vary between families and communities.
Coming soon: thoughtful gifts and decorative pieces for Irish heritage celebrations, friendly gatherings and warm St Patrick’s Day wishes.
