Raksha Bandhan

Raksha Bandhan is a Hindu festival celebrating the bonds of affection, care and responsibility between siblings. Especially associated with India and Nepal, it is also celebrated by communities worldwide, including the UK. Traditionally, a sister ties a rakhi, a symbolic thread, around her brother’s wrist, accompanied by wishes for wellbeing, sweets and gifts. Many families adapt the occasion to honour siblings and other cherished relationships, with customs varying between communities.

When it happens: usually August, although it can fall in late July, on the full moon of the Hindu month of Shravana. The exact Gregorian calendar date changes each year, and observance timings can vary locally.

Coming soon: thoughtful gifts and keepsakes to celebrate sibling love, shared memories and the people who care for us.
