Mid-Autumn Festival

Mid-Autumn Festival is a celebration of the harvest, the moon and togetherness, with longstanding roots in Chinese traditions. It is particularly celebrated by Chinese and Vietnamese communities, as well as communities worldwide, including the UK, on the fifteenth day of the eighth month of the traditional lunisolar calendar.

When it happens: usually September or October. The exact Gregorian calendar date changes each year.

In many Chinese families, the full moon symbolises reunion, with gatherings, mooncakes and moon-viewing expressing wishes for harmony and happiness. Stories of Chang'e, associated with the moon, form part of many celebrations. In Vietnam, Tết Trung Thu places a special emphasis on children, with lantern processions, lion dances and festive treats. Customs differ between regions and families.

Coming soon: thoughtful gifts and decorative pieces for family reunions, warm wishes and autumn gatherings.
