Chuseok
Chuseok is a major Korean harvest holiday with longstanding roots in Korean agricultural traditions. Celebrated in Korea and by Korean communities worldwide, including the UK, it is a time for family reunions, gratitude and remembering ancestors.
When it happens: usually September or October, on the fifteenth day of the eighth month of the traditional Korean lunisolar calendar. The exact Gregorian calendar date changes each year.
Families may share festive meals and songpyeon, rice cakes traditionally shaped like half-moons. Some observe charye, ancestral memorial rites, and visit family graves, while others celebrate through gatherings, traditional games and shared wishes for wellbeing. Customs vary between families and communities.
